riveted maile supplier
Can anyone reccommend a supplier of riveted maile I have read good things about some or the Indian suppliers but would be interested in some hands on recommendations.

Thanks Bob.

From what I see and hear this guy makes the best historically accurate riveted mail. A bit pricing but one of Eriks' pieces would be "oh too sweet" to own. I have read some of his finding's and others remarks on http://forums.swordforum.com/ just search Erik D. Schmid or riveted mail and a bunch of good topics about suppliers of mail.
All the pictures on the site recommended are flat section rings. Is there any evidence for flat sectioned ringshirts?

All that I have ever seen or read about has been round sectioned rings. Also common in some periods is to have alternate riveted and solid rings.

In any case the Indian suppliers are a good place to go but will probably need some tailoring to make it a perfect fit.
Hi all
Thanks for the feed back to be honest we are looking for the cheaper end.
Icefalcon Armory does a fair job for not too expensive. I've handled a few of their pieces and thought they'd work fine. Mileage may vary...

Yes. Flat rings are a later medieval development.

Ice Falcon is right up there. The guys is very active himself in the SCA combat. His armor is made to hold up to constant beatings. Because he is so active in combat he gets a lot of feedback from his customers. He can't sell crap to people he is going to be seeing the following week. I had bought a pair of gauntlets from him that had a minor defect and he exchanged if for me on the spot when I showed it to him. His reputation means a lot to him.

On the slightly cheaper side you may want to look at Von Sussen:

You can ask JE Sarge for feedback since he owns a Von Sussen mail shirt.

Doesn't Icefalcon get his stuff from SN Exports? If so I can testify that they deliver great stuff. I got a wedge-riveted hauberk directly from SN Exports (before they had an official importer for the Netherlands) and it's holding up great.
Sirs-being past combat myself, (70 ) I know little about mail. I was wondering what the group thinks of MRL's rivited mail.
I have an Icefalcon Hauberk, Blackened stainless..WOW, I have several other pieces I've collected over the years and this is by far the best. Icefalcon IS a close friend of mine, but I have not seen anything better, regardless of price. Icefalcon is a man of his word, he will ensure you are a satisfied customer. Chainmail has become an important part of Icefalcon's business, He gets great stuff and has alot of stock ready to ship, I have hung out in his shop many days screwing around watching him work, you will be well taken care of. Good luck with your hunt, JF

And a dutch suplier, www.malienkolders.nl

That last website is in dutch but I think it's easy to find out what they say. And you can always email you questions to info@malienkolders.nl
For UK buyers I would recommend http://www.capapie.co.uk/

Also I would be hesitant about buying from Getdressedforbattle as there have been a number of customer service related issues, which eventually split the company from its original supplier who is continueing to trade under the GDFBGlobal brand with a new man in charge inthe UK. Please read the posts on both GDFB & GetDressedForBAttle website to make your own minds up.
I had rings/rivets literally falling out of the box when I opened a MRL riveted steel mail hauberk. In their creation process, it seems that alot of the rivets end up not being peened for some reason. I had the same thing happen with their alumnium version as well. I am not sure what the deal was with this. Ironically, I have one of their butted ones that has never blown a ring...weird huh?

I'd go with something else other than MRL though.
