A Rare Austrian Pavise , c. 1480
[ Linked Image ]

* Pic : Peter Finer , 1995 .
It's so rare that we get to see the original paint and decoration on these and similar pieces. This example is extraordinary. What a great resource for those doing historical reproductions, too. No need for guess work or interpretation of paintings, tapestries, etc.
Great looking pavise. Now for the question, how does it look on the other side? I can imagine how it looks based on the description, but it would be nice to see a picture of it.
sorry for bringing up such an old topic but i have been looking in to the pavise I want to make my own. Do you still have the pic? Any one know anything about pavise 13c?

Thanks

I read the whole thing :D
Me to. I was wondering if there is anybody in this forum who have built a pavise yet? I´m planning on building one and would like to discuss some ideas.
Here is that Pavise image from Peter Finer's '95 catalogue ! Mac
Well im going to make a simple one some time. I dont think im doing the curve and i'll have a stick on a leather hinge to help hold the pavis up.

Nothing from an earlyer time? say 1100-1200?

thanks

Douglas
