A rather unique helm - looking for photo references...
Good day to all...

I'm a new member, obviously. I'm an enthusiast (SCA-related, but that's another story) and I got put out of heavy fighting due to a medical condition which is thankfully resolved now...

So, the point to this is that I had seen this interesting helmet on a Crusades-era statue of a round-top helmet with chain draping and a faceplate that looked like a hockey mask. :-)

It was really interesting and I wanted to find documentation for it, but alas my reference book I had it in has gotten lost, so if someone knows of this image, I'd love to get a hold of it and its identifying information so I can shut the period-Nazi's up when they ask if I'm copying Jason Voorhees when I fight.

Although I may slap a white hand of Saruman on it to piss them off...

Thanks in advance. I swear I'm not some troll too lazy to do his own diligence - I've been looking and I've seen this image in like two books over the last six years...
If it weren't for the Crusades-era timeframe, I'd say what you're describing sounds like a clibanarios' headgear. Perhaps a search into early Byzantine or late Roman Empire arms and armor might turn up some more material?
I've been looking. Truth to be told - I saw a picture of a statue with this style of helmet. I've seen it in only two books, and I no longer have either of them anymore.

It was a relief carving, crusades-era surcoat, mail, and this nifty helmet. For real, it looks like a hockey mask grafted onto a spagen or other similar helm. round on top, with the mail draping the neck.

I looked at the clibinarios' helmet - not the one I wanted.

I'll keep looking - if anyone sees one, capture the image, please?

This one from the my Armory spotlight on great helms ring a bell?

The one I'm really interested in is the early 13th C. proto Great Helm since this is the time period I'm portraying. It looks like the earlier "hockey mask" helms with the addition of a solid back plate. Cheers,
Hanns

It look a bit like this replica 18 gauge transitional helmet that has been kicking around the internet for a few years.

That's the one. Amazing. I asked about with all the other SCAdians I chat with, and everyone had seen it and knew what I was talking about, but no one actually had a copy of the picture.

This is great. Now to find someone to make this helmet.
Another picture of that same helmet -

Well, there is this one of similar type but different aesthetics:

If Allan would be willing to modify the design or do a custom one for you is something you could ask him in an e-mail, although he tends to want to limit custom work as much as possible so as to have his standard product line available for immediate delivery.

( EDITED: Oh, I see that a link to this one was already posted. ;) )
