simple question really
can I use a 30" round shield for 14th century combat. I only as I am moveing more towards 14th century as I have gone to sca from larp, but have limited budget so trying to reconstitue all my kit.

It depends on the shield. "Round shield" covers a surprisingly divers range, from the bronze age aspis to the 18th century leather targe. Can you clarify what kind of shield you are using, and in what context / region / culture you plan to use it?

the shield was originaly designed for use during the dark ages, Norse/saxon type. it is flat and has a glued canvis over cover with a central boss. 30" diameter 12mm ply.

Well Kenneth as far as I am aware center boss planked round shields had gone away entirely; even in the far reaches of Scandanavia. Pretty much everyone would have been using enarmed heater or wankel shaped shields by that point, if memory serves.

I'm no expert in the 14th century though, so perhaps someone else knows otherwise, but I think you'll need a new shield.
