Last Saturday, April 17, several of us Forumites converged on Eugene, Oregon, for the Oregon Knife Collector's Association annual Knife show. A good time is usually had at these events, though I must say the "sword attendance" was pretty meager, most of the booths filled with folders, bowies, "tacticals", and a few ethnic knives (Puukkos, Khukris, etc). Michael Bell of Dragonfly Forge was there as usual, with some his fine renditions of the Japanese sword. He also had on display a pattern-welded jian, one of his few forays outside of the world of the Japanese-style sword.

Big news for us fans of the western sword was the "arrival" of Angus Trim:

John Sharp, proprietor of Sharp Woodworks, maker of sword stands par excellence, like big, manly man swords. Gus has some:

One of the stars of Gus' table: The Big Leaf (the sword, not the large fellow):

Here, Gus explains a fine point to some potential customers (get it? Point?):

Also in attendance was Patrick Tougher of Scottish Sword and Shield (www.scottishsword.com). Here he is discussing with John Sharp the finer points of the Scottish sword:

Not all of Pat's swords are of Scottish origin. Case in point:

But the biggest news for me was the presence of a very special guest:

Vince and Grace were up from Arizona visiting some friends and thought they'd stop by and scope out the scene. Vince is a real neat guy and a gentleman and I wish I'd had more time to chat with him, alas, the constraints of time....

And here is a meeting of the minds -- Vince Evans and the Dirty Dawg:

Awesome pics... what sword is that in the Sharp pic? It looks like it has two or three fullers! If that is an ATrim model, I want...

And the Big Leaf... is bigger than I thought! Wow. I think I'll be getting one of those, too... Happy

The sword is my companion.

Unfortunately, I missed Karl Foster by just a few minutes!

And Alex Chin (ranconteur, handle wrapper par excellence, and international man of mystery) is actually in one of those pics... but he's undercover, in stealth mode.... so you probably can't see him... Laughing Out Loud
