Just wondering if anyone here knows if maces are legal to own in Canada. I know flails aren't but I'm curious if Canada Customs would be able to tell the two apart. I know warhammers are O.K. since I have a few.

I'm pretty sure they are. The local sword shop carries them, some years ago the owner was arrested for selling flails (he did not knew the regulations, an officer told him he would check for it and come back to inform him if it was legal, never came back but other policemen came and arrested the owner...) but they never said anything about his maces.

Hi,

A quick google brought up a couple of articles that may help. It is my understanding that flails are illegal because they are flexible weapons which I believe are specifically prohibited by law. A mace is not flexible so does not fit that prohibited category. Both articles mention "morning stars" specifically, then go on to describe a spike ball on the end of chain on the end of a stick - or a flail. My guess is that "morning stars" are specifically named in the legislation. So I bet any lovely oak two handed club with a big spike in one end than happens to be called morning star on a invoice, in English or French, will not cross the border but calling it a "Goedendag" might just get it through.

This is just my opinion. I am allowed to have one and it does not have to be right.

Jeff, I bought a mace from A&A last year and I had no trouble at all. Axes, spears, swords all seem to be no problem except flails which are a prohibited weapon.
