A client of mine called Oskar Orbom asked me to make a repro of this dagger, which I have never seen a similar one too.

I've made some research and found a nice one. It's a find from Lund
dated somewhere around 1300. I think that it's mainly single edged but
have the tip double edged. The cap at the top is (as I've understood) a
quite common feature among scandinavian bollock daggers. (I don't want
my cap to be that much decorated though)

The only info I've got from the museum is the following (translated from
swedish):
"Bollock dagger with the blade of steel and handle in buxbom?. The
handle is crowned by a round vaulted disc of brass with punsed
decoration in the shape of an M. Around 1300."

I've also found a nice scabbard. It's probably not connected to the
dagger, but found in the same city at least.

I find the double arched base to the balls interesting and also the long nipple on the end cap is curious. I took 'buxbom' to be boxwood, which is what it looks like.

Altogether I have not seen the like of this one and thought you may like to see it.

That's lovely Leo! Do you have a picture of the butt cap on your repro?

I've been admiring the original often. Too bad the dating is not more precise though, I'd love one myself if it could be securely dated to before say 1320...

Buxbom is indeed boxwood, so you were right there. Happy

Looks great, Tod! I can hardly wait for the one I bought from your English Cutler site to arrive (should be very soon). That is an unusual design, but very attractive. Happy

The cap is I am afraid just a plain shallow dome of sheet as per Oskars wishes, so nothing much to see.

Not long now Christopher...........
