I remember seeing a spadroon very much like yours on myArmoury this year. He had found it in a field and needed it identified. It was very, very, similar to yours in both grip and guard. It also was single edged. I'm hoping someone can find it and post the link. I'll look myself as well. Very interesting! I think your sword is late 18fh century.

Ahhh, here is the link. You wouldnt happen to be Jonathan Swift would you?

Well, I am embarrassed. I knew I inquired about this sword on the internet before, but for the life of me I couldn't recall where. Thank you for bringing that thread to my attention -- again! -- and if I ought to close this one, I will happily do so.
Our rules only allow one account per person. As such, the account named "Jon S." has been disabled. I've asked Jon to use his original account named "Jonathan Swift" going forward.
I am pretty sure that the blade is french. I think It is late, 1790's,early 1800's. The pattern is very, very close to a French officers sword. Especially the guard and the rear quillon. The grip, is different however. Here are some pics of a pre-revolution french officers sword and a post napoleonic-restoration version. Note the similarities:
