What the four-letter-word was a manglavion?
Does anybody have information about the Byzantine weapon known as the manglavion? I've seen some (secondary) sources refer to it as a whip and other saying that it was a club, but I couldn't tell which opinion is true because I haven't managed to get any primary sources with the relevant information yet. Or is it simply that there's not enough information to make any firm judgements about the matter?

I think you are right, Lafayette. Manglavion is a whip and the word is derived from the Arabic mijlab.
Any reliable sources for that, then? I'd be especially happy if anyone can find some sort of serious scholarly work that can clear up the constant confusion I see between the manglavion and the menavlion.
