I notice that there seem to be a significant diffrence in lenght between the Wallace collection example and the one offered by Herman Historica, barely 80cm vs 114 cm! The Dutch & Swedish exampels of this type I've examined also have shorter blades though some are longer than the A612. The blade of the HH sword also seems to be narrower at the hilt than the Swedish example but this could be due to being photographed from diffrent angles.

There's significant variety in these weapons. I don't know if they're all by Stantler or are simply different makers' interpretation of a practical design. The basics seem pretty consistent, though.

NOTE: Some of the grips shown on the antiques above may be later replacements. Exotic examples/outliers are automatically suspect.

My new A&A Town Guard sword arrived last week and I'm very pleased with it! I'll have much more to say about it later, but for now suffice it to say that it's changed my perspective on these swords. I would guess that no matter what you think about this type, you'll be surprised when you get one in your hand. A wonderful, frightening thing....

I for one will eagerly look forward to any & all information you can share about the A&A Town Guard. Even is this econmy it is still on my shopping list even it it may be a whiel before I can raise the funds.
