Hunting Swords
Dear Don,

Okay, here are some close up photos and I got all the swords off the floor that are not mounted and took some more pictures. If you want to do some specific study, cut and paste the sword you are interested in and I will try to provide more detailed information.

This is my last work on swords for a while, I have to go back to working on my taxes. I will check for any additional postings.

Mark,
We emailed once before I think. Aren't you just around th corner down in Navasota, or somewhere close?

Here's what I had in mind. On two, the guard is kind of a hybrid pierced/shell configuration.

You wouldn't happen to have a pic of one like the French one, looking down from above would you? I keep seeing what looks like metal edging on the handle. Are these decorative (etched or engraved) or just smooth?

Dear Don,

This silver hilt 29.5" sword is the closest I have to the swords in your line drawing. I purchased it from an Italian auction house for $467. and purchased it as being a German Hirschfanger. The blade alone is 24.5" long and very narrow, not like 18th Century sword blades that were much more robust in width and weight. It is more of a military style than a pure hunting sword style.

As irony would have it, our office here was sent an Interpol database of stolen art and arms... they had a pretty nifty hunting sword in there. ;)
Thanks!!!

Get back to your taxes so you can get a better refund...we all will be picking out some more blades for you to buy! :D

Dear Don,

With the tax pressure off I felt ambitions and wanting to do some sword postings. Check the New Topics and you will see two new Hirschfanger threads and a major contribution to Stephen Fisher's Loop Guard smallsword thread.
I saw those. Nice find!
Thanks again for the help!
