A small hand forged knife
I guess this is quite off topic, as it is hardly really comes under the classification "arms", given that it's only a few inches long (still wouldn't want to be stabbed by it though!), but I thought this might be of interest to any budding knife and sword makers out there as to what can be done without much equipment. My brother made it for me out of an old file, some brass and a bit of sheep horn using a coke-powered forge he constructed from an old car wheel, some scrap steel and a 1960s vacuum cleaner. He also has a nice big anvil that he picked up second hand. He has also done some other larger knives with twisted steel handles from old Landrover springs, etc. I must admit I was pretty chuffed to get this as a gift a few weeks ago as I didn't even know he was interested in knives and weaponry (as he (a) lives on the other side of the planet than me and (b) is pretty fickle with his interests! ).
Cheers
Stu

Off-topic maybe, but thanks for sharing. Very attractive little piece. Can you post the specs? Maybe another pic or two as well...?
Very beautiful. How sharp can you get it, and how well does it hold an edge? Files are normally quite hard; how did you sharpen it?
