Need help identifying bayonet
I recently acquired a sawback bayonet, but I have no idea where it comes from, the model or anything else about it. After scouring the net for hours, I've decided to ask if anyone can help me identify it.

It has a 20 inch metal sheath covering a 19 inch sawback blade. At the base of the blade, the markings "HS" appear, with a "W" right beneath it, and the numbers 1938 below that. (I assume it to be the year of manufacture.) It had a wooden and metal hilt with the number "607400" etched into it.

I can provide a picture if need be. Anyone know what it is I have?
With a blade that length and with a metal sheath, it is probably a German pattern S.98, though most of these had leather sheaths with metal mounts. Is it a 'W' or a 'W' with II under it ? This would normally be at the base on the spine of the blade. I do not know ,off the top of my head, of any saw backed bayonets used after the first world war, though some may have been sold or reissued. And during the second world war most nations opted for much shorter bayonets.
I used to be an enthusiastic collector of bayonets, so if you can post a picture, possibly I can at least point you in the right direction :) It is very difficult without a picture...and often difficult with one!

I look forward to seeing a picture.

Regards,

Russ
