The shillelagh or the famous Irish stick. One of the few european martial living lineage (and hopefully going through somewhat of a renaissance): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irish_stick_fighting

Hello Maxime: maybe you can add some more about your training and research about the shillelagh on this Topic or start a specific Topic about them. Wink

For those who don't know, Max has done some serious research in Ireland about the Shillelagh but I won't say much more because I don't know how much he want to say about it here at this moment: Lets just say he found rare and difficult to access sources of information and I don't know what he is free to talk about or if he is keeping this stuff for a future book, martial arts course or article.

Just saying I don't know ! Big Grin
I carry a custom made shillelagh every were I go, it is an excellent weapon, here is a picture of some old and modern shillelagh. Also I have a picture of two old Japanese fighting sticks or clubs each about 4.5 feet long...the one with the iron studs is a kanabo or tetsuba, I am not sure what the other one is called, maybe just a bo in the style of a walking stick.

I decided, inspired by this thread, to make me a couple of Shillelaghs of local Finnish woods. Here are the results so far.

Smaller one is birch, bigger is Mountain Ash. Both are oiled.

If you want to make a Peasant Staff then you might want to use an uprooted sapling as your starting point.

Well, I'd love to, but trying to find a decent one is a nightmare Laughing Out Loud
