I got this cheapolian wall hanger on ebay. The blade was stainless.The pommel,and guard are cast aluminium,
but highly detailed.I mounted them on an ATRim flared shoulder blade. I know its not historical.But as a, fantasy viking sword, I`am pretty pleased :) Has anyone seen, a guard like this, in any books. Other than the cover art, by Rojo,on the Conan books :)
How comparatively strong, is cast aluminium, to cast brass?The pommel/guard seem solid enough.

The guard is actually a combination of the actual sword's guard and the scabbard chape rusted to the top of the blade. They've made it that way for years, though. Oh well. :)

I've got to say that it is a beautiful sword now. Well done!

I was looking intently at the guard trying to figure out if it had historical bases when I read Chad's post. Now it makes a lot of sense! I can see the lines that would separate the guard from the chape, but as a fantasy sword, it really looks cool. Definitely one that I would carry.

Again, I think it's really excellent work.

The pommel was no problem at all. But the stainless blade was a 1/16 th. thinner than the ATrim blade.
I had to widen the apature,on the guard. with a drill and fill.

holy cow. i have that same wall hanger and ALL MOST put the fittings on another blade like you did. that looks great.!!!!

Personally, after looking at the hilt and blade some more, reminds me of a cross between a viking sword and a chinese imperial sword. (I think they're currently called tai chi swords)

Probably because of the detail work and how the guard seems to flow into the blade. The longer hilt may contribute to that appearance as well. Or I may just be seeing things after a long day at work! :lol:

May I say again that the sword is stunning and you've done an amazing job. You've taken a "cheapo" sword, selected the pieces you liked, combined them with a functional blade, and made a work of art. I love it.
