Lovely close up, did you take the picture yourself?
Thankyou very much anyway !

Russ,
Both of these are my pictures. My visit was a year and a half ago, but I recall the gilding was largely as it appears in these pics (on my monitor at least). The gold was bright and the rest very rust-like in color.
My camera was on auto (which is usually pretty accurate) and I've done no color-correcting of either photo.

Thanks Chad.
As can be seen by everyone, the colour between your pictures and the one that I have posted are quite different ! It has made me wonder a bit over the years!
All gold coloured armour is scarce, and I can quite understand why Stephen Grancsay might have thought that this harness might be French, especially given the supposed provenance of the ventral plate. It is certainly a stunning piece.
With thanks,
Russ

Russ, every few months I go down to see the old boy, and I can tell you that Chad's second photo is pretty much spot-on.

The first is a little more washed out than the second. It was the reflection of the morning sun off the glass.

Thankyou, for that. I have often wondered about the actual colour. I am greatly looking forward to getting to see it in the 'steel' so to speak ! Hopefully , next year I will convince myself that this trip is absolutly necessary!!
James , have you ever got to actually 'play' with this harness ??

Hi All
Once again I have questions on patterns for the ii 8 suit from the Tower.
Does anyone have any plans or drawings of breastplates similar to this harness. I am still new too this and having a little trouble working out the lines for each piece based on the existing complete suits (I didn't spend enough time at the Tower researching it just drooling over it...)
Any help in this would be much appreciated.
Regards
Marc

Hi All
I have had a go at making patterns for the gorget for the ii 8 suit.
The first attachment is the vertical section of the gorget. The front and back are identical and I was looking at having leather connecting them on the inside of the left hand side. This is currently designed to work with my existing helmet and I will remake to suit the henry viii suit when I have done the actual helmet for it.
The top edge is to be rolled over (about 2cm worth of material I estimate) and the bottom edge is to be flared out.
The second attachment is the angled plate. This is to be match to the plates above and below.
I have not yet made templates in cardboard from these yet but intend to try this in the near future.
Can you please give your opinion on whether this pattern will be suitable for the gorget I intend to make.
Thank you
Regards
Marc

Marc,
Go to http://www.armourarchive.org
Many armourers hang out there and would be willing to help, and there is a patterns section. Most of the patterns are for much simpler pieces, but should get you started.
