The sword was found on the west coast of the Island "Ruegen", thats in the east sea area, near the Danish boarder, the style looks like the Viking swords, so it will be dated about 900/1000 A.D., I want 800 ($1,000.) Euro for the sword, when you interested let me know

Dear Friends,

A good German friend has emailed me with an offer to sell me the above sword and thought I would bring you into my decision making process. The relic condition is similar to what one would expect in an excavated Iron Age Germanic sword.

My field of weapons study is for much earlier, I do not have any swords from this era of the HRE/Viking area. I would appreciate any help in identification, authentication, documentation and valuation you might be willing to provide.

If I get some interesting replies I will share them with you as I have in previous exercizes.

Is my friend asking a fair price? Is it a great deal for me or should I make a counteroffer, and how much. This is definitely not a Viking sword, although it comes from the general area where the Vikings roamed so I would not project viking sword prices on it.

I collect swords and bayonets dated WWI back to the Bronze Age from the US and Europe and ancient swords and other weapons from Eurasia. I participate in many historical forums for the study of ancient history and weapons. I am happy to share what expertise I have. John Piscopo
