Greetings armoury folk:

I recognise many similarities to the sword of this topic with an item I picked up from an antique dealer here in Hobart, Australia a few years back. I was told it was a Turkish officer's sabre of WW1, souvenired by an Australian serviceman from the Palestinian campaign 1917-1918.

The wording on the blade is partly erased by sharpening of the edge, but looks like it may have read "I NIKITITS ERREN CONSTANTINOPEL".

Presumably manufactured by a German armourer in Istanbul, either during or before the war.

Anyone familiar with this genre?
