Now let's kick off this New Year with a new thread where you can post photos of celebrities wielding swords.

An oldie but goody.. It was actually the initial part of the film Conan the Barbarian, where the father is shown doing a fair amount of the process of realistically making a sword, that got my interest in swords sparked for good.

When my friends were watching Highlander over and over, I was obsessed with this film, The Duellists.

It's actually not all that realistic. Damn impressive, yes - one of those things that just seem too good not to be true - but not realistic. The ironic thing is, it would be alright for a bronze sword. :D

That said... look! It's Billy Idol with a lever-action sword!

Oh no, wait, it's just Chris Lambert playing Billy Idol playing Beowulf with a lever-action sword. Oh well.

Two for one! Errol Flynn and Basil Rathbone, even though before my time (before my parents time even >.<) The Adventures of Robin Hood is one of the first movies to spark my interest in swords and swordplay

a bit trickier to find a picture of, another one of my all time favorite movies, Danny Kaye in the Court Jester :)

That's Rutger Hauer in one of his best roles ever, the cursed knight Etienne Navarre in Ladyhawke.

Amazingly good movie. The sword was unusually nice and practical, too, despite the gaudy stones.

And the titular "Ladyhawke" was heartbreakingly cute, too. At least by night. But then, she was Michelle Pfeiffer. At least by night.

All in all, one of my all-time favorite fantasy films, with some surprising (but good!) celebrity casting choices. The end is so sweet I still choke up every time...

Kristanna Loken, by far the most beautiful woman to have ever wielded a sword :)

I'll see your Kristanna Loken, and raise Meiko Kaji, the legendary Hong Kong actress and singer, leading lady of such classic pieces of cinema as Lady Snowblood and Female Convict Scorpion. Alas, she's probably best known in the west for her hauntingly beautiful vocals in the theme song for Lady Snowblood, "Flower of Carnage", as featured in Kill Bill...

I was hoping someone would post a scene from Kill Bill I (the fight with the crazy 98 or whatever..)
The Ladyhawke swords were designed by Oscar Kolombatovich.

This one came up a year or so ago.

Cheers

Hi!
Here is Churchill, Roosevelt, and Stalin with the sword of Stalingrad at Tehran.
The sword was given by Churchill to Stalin to honor the victory at Stalingrad.

BTW: Note the pommel peening of the sword!

Cheers!

Madmartagan is still one of my favorites, though this isn't the best shot.

Ooh, Willow! Another of my favourite fantasy movies! And ol' Maddie's one of my favorite heroes, at that. :D

And speaking of Kill Bill...

I always hated the music for that movie. The film itself is great but the cheesy 80's synth music just grates on my nerves. Some atmospheric music like Name of the Rose would have made it dark and infinitely creepy. Also the ending was all wrong. Navarre walked in, killed the 'good' bishop without the curse being shown to the witnesses. How long was he going to live after that.He murdered a good man of the church! Had the bishop turned into a wolf after the blow was struck - thus showing a curse and trucking with the devil, it would have been a so much better ending. .... but I digress ......

from the most recent Zatoichi - Takeshi Kitano
