Reclaiming the Blade
I'm not sure how many of you know about this already, but using the search function yielded no results. Also, if this post is inappropriate for the forum, I apologize.

“Reclaiming the Blade” is a 90-minute documentary about Western and Eastern swords and swordsmanship, as well as the history behind the modern interpretation thereof. It is an attempt to dispel many of the common misrepresentations and myths about the medieval sword, using insights from experts such as John Clements of ARMA and Hank Reinhardt of Museum Replicas, and actors involved in sword related movies such as Viggo Mortensen (“Alatriste” and “Lord of the Rings”. In addition, the swords for this movie are provided by Albion Swords of Wisconsin. I am really excited for this movie to come out; I feel that it is the first film attempting to educate the general public about swords without the exaggerations generally associated with the katana or the clumsiness associated with the European sword. Signing up for email updates about the film automatically enters you into a contest to win an Albion sword.
In addition, the film is attempting to reinforce the existing community by providing an application called “Fight Finder”, which is essentially a database of martial arts groups that have submitted their information and helps the user find a group close to them. Registering your group in the Fight Club Finder automatically enters the group into a contest for a great selection of training gear. To check this out, either click here

Also, by becoming a Friend of Reclaiming the Blade, by posting an RTB banner on your website, you can be listed in the credits for the film. You will also get a banner for your site posted on the RTB site. If any of you choose to do this, if you could mention my name as a reference in the comment box, I would greatly appreciate it. ;)
The film is to be released in the summer of 2008. In the meantime, if you have any questions about the film, feel free to ask me.

Galatia Films has announced that a sequel, called "Reclaiming the Blade 2: A Call to Arms" is in development! It's good that they have enough confidence in the first film before it even comes out to start preparing for a sequel.

Has anyone told them that after you make a movie it is customary in this country to show it to people? :)
They must have made it from the cuttings that was left on the floor from the first movie. :D

Or not.

Films are cheaper if done back to back.
What happened to their win an Albion contest? I would like to know in preparation for placing it on my wall :p
The contest to win one of several Albion swords is still on, you just need to register for the mailing list. Most of the prize swords are from the Albion Next Generation lineup, two of which are the Prince and the Landgraf.
Addison do you know when they are going to pick winners? or even when the contest ends?
Addison,

Do you have any ideas about when this documentary will be available for viewing?

It is due for releas summer of 2008, but I can't be more specific than that.

To Brian Hook: I will post it here as soon as I know; should be within the next few days sometime.

The details aren't nailed down 100% yet, but as of right now the plan is to have drawings once a month from January to June for the Fight Club Finder gear, and from January through the end of the year monthly for the individual swords. This is subject to change however.
once a film is done it has to go to film festivals and that sort of thing. the distributors will not allow the filmmakers to just release it. these things just take time. nature of the beast. i know films take a while to make and this one looks real good. i guess it is easy to produce a cheap film but this movie does not seem to be one. also keep in mind that the film (i assume) will only be about an hour and a half, it must be hard to cover everything in that amount of time, thus reclaiming the blade two. my guess is this will be a straight to dvd sort of things as a follow up, to include more stuff.
I can certainly appreciate the relationship between time and quality. From all I've read about it, RTB is a quality production and I will patiently await the day I can see it, and its sequel. And to all those involved in creating this piece I would like to say... Take all the time you need, make it great!

And to those celebrating the settling of these United States I wish a Happy Thanksgiving. We have a lot to be thankful for.

Good Cheer To All

Actually, it is hopefully going to theatres. :D When you sign up for the mailing list, part of the requested information is your zip code. Galatia films is using this information to see how many people in a given area are interested in seeing the film, and will be basing their decision from that.

EDIT: Also, as an update, the credits are being finalized soon, so the deadline for joining Friends of Reclaiming the Blade is the end of December; and sooner is better just in case the credits are finalized before then for some reason.
Looking forward to checking it out. Summer 2008 it is!
