Before you buy!
If you ever plan to fight in your kit hold off on all these 500 odd dollar great helms. this is one of the easiest pieces of armor to produce in the home workshop. Steel sheet is a surprisingly cheap commodity. a 4' by 4' sheet of cold rolled 14ga is about 40-50 bucks and prices drop quickly for lower gauges and a 4' sheet can make about 3 helmets (so if you have friends ;) ) A 3 piece pattern is pretty easy to find on the internet and if anyone you know has a helmet you might want to emulate, cover it in strips of duct tape, cut to the shape of the pieces, remove, and paste to cardboard. All you need is a jig saw, some files, (for the strong) some rivets or (for the lazy) a wire fed welder. With nominal skill and about 6 hours it should end up looking something like this

Years ago, when I did my first kit (a late 12th/early 13th century knight) I got the GH0140 from By the Sword Inc. The helms in their "arms and armor" section are some really good helms IMO. They are available in custom sizes, and in 14ga steel, too. I almost got the horned helmet (pictured in the beginning of this thread) but was worried the crown would not stand up to any actual blows from sparring with wasters and such http://www.bytheswordinc.com/p-3590-tournamen...h0146.aspx Any issues with historical accuracy aside, I still think about getting it from time to time, just because it is such a great looking helm. :)
