There are a few Osprey books on the subject. I also heartily recommend "Warriors of the Himalayas", by Donald LaRocca.

Hisham

Have you read the following book?

Arms and Armour of the Nomads of the Great Steppe in the Times of Mongol Expansion (12th - 14th Centuries)
by Witold Swietoslawski
ISBN 838587402X

If so what's your opinion?

Is it the most comprehensive book on mongol arms and armour including good quality photos and illustrations?

Never heard of it, but now that you've mentioned it, I want it! Happy

Well, if you don't mind sites where the information is mostly good but sometimes has to be taken with a spoonful of salt, maybe the Silk Roads Design Armoury--a producer of replica Central Asian armor and the like--can be a decent starting place:

And then, this page:

http://www.umich.edu/~eng415/topics/war/Islamic_Armour.html

has an interesting illustration from David Nicolle's book that mentions some Mongolian armor terminology. You're probably better off buying the book altogether, though.

And somehow, I suspect you'll be able to find something in this site's own Bookshelf:

I have a copy, so can help a bit. I haven't read it in depth, but it is 144 pages, of which 110 are text. The text gives a good overview of the equipment. The pictures are mostly line drawings, either archaeological finds or a few artist's impressions of equipped Mongols, with only a couple of photos, and to me were a bit of a disappointment. If you want to learn the history a bit better, it is good, but if you want good artist's reconstructions, it isn't very useful.

I can't recall the title, but a few years ago one of the museums (the Met?) published a book on the arms and armour of Nepal, which had some great photos of medieval equipment, and excellent descriptions. Maybe someone else here has it or knows it.

Yes, the Met published the book which Hisham referred to: "Warriors of the Himalayas" about the arms and armour of Tibet. A very fine work on a hitherto obscure subject.
