Hi all,

I tried to find a previous thread regarding maille (from not that long ago), but couldn't-- I'll just re-post here for anyone who is interested.

Here is a site for those interested in authentic "Dark Age" or Vikiing maille. I just found it today and was quite impressed. It is obviously a re-enactment site and thus contains a goodly amount on what is or is not discouraged by the group in question. However, it also has a stunning survey of various maille finds from archaeological sites.

Data includes:

--the site where a maille item is found
--the size of wire used
--ring size
--method of joining (lapped, riveted, welded etc)
--nature of the article (shirt, aventail)
--approximate date of origin.

Further tables interpret the data and provide illustrations of weaves and relative thickness of wire as compared to ring size etc.

For those who are interested, you can find it at:

Take Care,

David
