And here's a good group of fellows doing Polish 17th Century reenacting, including Hussaria:

Their site has lots of good photo's of original and modern interperetations, with a great links page as well.

Cheers!

hello
I would like to add something on this nice illustration's historical information:

this image of a winged hussar has some errors:
there are no pistols while the hussar appears to be around 1670s - and pistols were adopted as early as 1577 and became widespread in 1590s.
the stirrups are too narrow and lack several other characteristics of the so called hussar stirrup.
there is no koncerz although it may be on the other side
there is no crouper
there is no throatlatch on the bridle.
the color of the horse is black - well, according to several Polish horse magnagement books form the 16th and 17th centuries color black for a military horse was not a wise choice (they called 'black' horse a crow or raven - depending on the shade of black - horse).
Preferable colors were bay - all shades, then greys, whites, dun, buckskin, roans and chestnuts (they called them yew/ taxus color), appaloosa.
his hooves are light - well, the 16-18th cneturies Polish horsmen did want horses only with black hooves.

also this horse is 'flaging' his tail in the typical Arabian fashion - well, according to prof. Pruski research (the most preeminent authority on the history of Arabian horses breeding in Poland) there were hardly any Arabians in Poland prior to 1683, and they only appeared in larger numbers after 1800s when Turkish, Persian, Italian, Iberian imports ceased to be of any significance in breeding. Thus Polish horses would most likely exhibit low tail carriage as the Iberian, Italian, Hungarian - Moldavian and Transilvanian, Circassian, (there were companies of Cirsassians in the Polish armies as petyhorcy or pancerni), Persian and Turkish horses used to do...
Perhaps there are more 'error; with the armor but one cannot tell because this small scale of the picture.
