The, swiss sabre, from Manning Imperial,has to be the coolest reproduction sword I`ve ever seen.Does anyone own one?If I had $2500,I`d be sorely tempted.
This is the first time I've seen it. It's beautiful. Those hilt styles are fascinating. I'm curious if "Swiss" is an accurate description for this, but it's what Manning Imperial states on their site.
That is pretty cool. It even has a thumb "ring"--or loop, or whatever you'd call it in that form. I wonder if the original has that feature. If so, that would be the earliest version of a thumb ring I have seen.

I'm sure it did. It has an A.V.B. Norman Inner Guard Type 20. These hilts are found on many hand and a half swords of German origin.
The replica is dated mid-16th century: a time where many hand and a half hilts had thumb-rings. You can see an example I had replicated by looking at my Phoenix Metal Creations Hand and a Half Sword, also having a Type 20 Inner Guard.
The pommel reminds me of a ,jesters cap :). The whole thing has a sort of "fantasy" flare, to it.

Thanks. I really need to pick up Norman's book on the subject. I have always wondered when the thumb ring emerged. I assumed it would have first appeared on a basket-type hilt, but the Type 20 shows otherwise.
On the subject of the saber, Manning Imperial have created a convincing saber. Others I have seen look strange, as if a 19th century saber blade has been added to a Medieval or Renaissance hilt.

The hilt reminds me of a weapon in the Armoury of the Dukes of Burgundy (from this site: http://www.truefork.org/Photography/Burgundian_Armoury.php )
