For a HYW outfit, the type XIV is definitely the preferable choice; if your interest was the Crusades, the Knight would be the way to go.

Do you mean Type XVI? Type XIV's were in use at the very outset of the HYW at best.
You're right - slip of the fingers.
I know this is just some weird psychological thing, but I really can't picture a sword like the Knight being used in the 14th century. It's something that I'm wrong about, historically speaking, but I associate the 14th century so strongly with weapons like the XV, XVI, and XVII as well as their variants that the though of someone running around with a type XII sword seems...wrong.

A type XII would not be effective vs. the plate armor being used in the 14th century, though not everyone was wearing it. Still, though XII blades were not being made then, I bet there were a fair few still in use - maybe not by the rich and famous, but by the man who only could afford to use his grandfather's sword.

One of the entries in Oakeshott's Records is of a type Xa (I think?) rehilted with 15th century furniture.
