Question: Shields from the period 300-800 AD
What is the common thought on the size and form of shields from the Migrationperiod. When you look at reconstruktions one often see oval shields. What was the most common shape and size in scandinavia during this period? Is there anyone who have suggestions or pics of finds from the Vendelperiod graves?

Need some information for a reconstruction so I´m greatful for answers.

Only one I can think of is Sutton Hoo which is contemporary, I think. That's round with the face curved back near the edges - but you probably knew that one and meant other examples, so I'll shut up now.
Geoff
Didn´t know it curved back though :D...

Thanx man!
Martin, if you can find a copy (i think its in the bookstore here) of I.P. Stephensons The Anglo - Saxon Shield you'll find a ton of information at least on round shields. From excavated grips it appears that round shields were made both curved and flat.
