We just finished up another custom piece in the OlliN shop. Introducing the Morehead Sword.
The double fullered blade was ground by hand. Assembly of the guard and pommel was the same as the Wallace-Records Xa1. The guard was wedged into place and the pommel was wedged and hot-peened in place. This leads to a construction method that is strong and durable, where the various components are attached to the blade itself. This also leads the grip and its leather covering to be applied last.
The specs for this piece are...
Weight: 2 lb 13 oz
Over All Length: 40 5/8"
Blade Length: 33"
Center of Balance: 5"
Center of percussion: 20.5" from guard
Thickness of Blade: 1/4"
Blade: 1075 Steel
Grip: wood, leather covering
Guard: steel / bronze
Pommel: steel / bronze

Absolutely stunning - that is what a Medieval Sword is supposed to look like.

Think you may want to check your figures for blade length or overall length. Seems improbable that both are correct. Nice looking sword.

Thank you very much! It really came together well. When Mark brought it to our meeting over the weekend I got a chance to handle it. I instantly feel in love with it. It's got a great feel.

A beautiful sword - I particularly like the pommel design; thanks for including profile shots of it on your website. It feels like an archetypal medieval sword, as Lloyd said; but it also stands out as a distinct and unique design. The flaring octagonal guard is very satisfying too.

It looks like a type XIII. There are very few of that type on the market.
I also urge you to make more historically based swords.

Right now we can make up to five. It is one of those things, if there is interest past the first batch we might be able to work something out with for another limited run, but it would be at a later date.

Jonathan and Rodger,
Thank you for your kind words. We are defiantly not opposed to creating historical pieces. Right now most of our collections have a more 'fantasy' feel to them. A lot of the historic pieces we've created from our custom shop. We have been kicking around some different ideas as of late that lean a little more toward historical pieces, but nothing specific just yet. If you have some ideas or thoughts of some pieces that you think would be a good direction for us, shoot me PM or an email. I'd love to hear what you think!

This sword has made its way down to see me for a few days before I have to give it to the owner on Monday. Thought that I would take a few more pictures of it while I had it out yesterday and it was such a nice day. Even though I didn't make it, I can't wait to get to see the reaction on Monday when he gets it. This is a very nice sword and he will be very happy to get it.

I second that.  Your fantasy work is very good also: Wild designs that would actually work well as practical weapons because they are not so wild as to have features that get in your way and are put together using the same high standards that one expects from functional swords.
Sometimes interesting designs that are unfortunately produced by companies who use really bad steel and the weakest rattail tangs one could imagine: Even a design that is imaginative and might even be tempting becomes useless unless one is just looking for a wallhanger. ( Fine as long as one holds no delusions that they are real swords or any other weapon: I have a couple of these myself because I liked their looks, but I always wish one could find a well made one. )
In any case, you have shown here that you can make very good historical pieces: " If you produce them, they will buy "  ( Sort of a Field of Dreams, but with swords. )
You can easily give up your freedom. You have to fight hard to get it back!

Jean,
I love the quote! And thank you very much for the kind words. I do find that the fantasy pieces that we have created do have function. Mark was just showing me one of the new fantasy swords that his is making that can be held three different ways depending on what kind of attack you wanted. Three! That to me that is just amazing.
You're words have not fallen on deaf ears. Mark and I have had some serious conversations as of late on the topic of creating an OlliN Historic Collection. Lots of thoughts on it right now. We'll keep everyone posted (ha ha) on what's going on as we work out more of the specifics.
