Recently noticed that Atlanta Cutlery has a few Del Tin bare blades available. These are listed under Italian blades on their website. Might be a good chance for those looking for a DIY type of project.

Those CK55 blades obviously are leftovers from the days when MRL sold Del Tin swords, or a combo of DT blade and MRL hilt. They must have been sitting on those shelves for 10 to 15 years.

Ahh, man....I'd take a few of those! The Type XVIII hand-and-a-half and Scottish blade look wonderful. Not today, though. Sigh.

So would I. If I can scrounge up the money for them.

These has definitly been sitting on the shelf for some time. I picked up a XVIII and falcion blade to mess around with. Sounds like my wife has plans to take on one or both of them as projects. Although I might be somewhat tempted to mount the falcion on a short polearm.

Wow Ben you really cleaned up on them...*G*

Oh well... I paid $140 for a blade at Albion's Moat Sale that I could have bought for $90 at Atlanta Cutlery. *sigh*

Call me weird, but I think that Cutlass blade would look stunning on an Eljay Ribbon hilt.

I almost bought one for that very purpose but refrained from spending the money.

These are very tempting. Although a few of those tangs make me a little weary.

I was thinking the same thing... Eek! I've developed the impression (from this very site) that the only welded tangs worth having are those by Lutel. Are you guys that are buying these blades going to be using them for display purposes, or are some of you going to sharpen them up and use them? Happy

Properly done welds aren't necessarily bad. Del Tin has been welding extensions on tangs for years, and I haven't heard of many failures (though I have heard of a few). If they are typical Del Tin welds, they will likely be fine, as the vast majority of DT tangs are.

Interesting to note that some of the welded on pieces are long (almost the whole tang), while others are fairly short sections. I wonder if this indicates different times of production or if they vary according to the hilt/blade style of a given sword? Happy

Well, I may have to jump on this as well. I don't know where to find the hilt components anymore, but one of the blades has been on my list for 10 years or more. Recreating the whole sword will be another matter though. Then again, having to wait untill next month will most likly see my pick sold out. Blush
The pen is mightier than the sword, especially since it can get past security and be stabbed it into a jugular.
This site would be better if everytime I clicked submit... I got to hear a whip crack!

Just wanted to give a bit of an update. I got my two blades today and I'm happy with them. Neither the falcion or the hand and a half blade had the welded rod tang extension. Not that I was overly worried if they did, the del tin gladius blade we have has the rod and it isn't a problem for it. The falcion is a solid tang with no welds, does have a welded extension though. The weld isn't the prettiest, but it looks solid enough. I'll probably test it good if it does turn out that I'll even be using that much of the tang. There is a chance it might be getting a short single hand hilt anyway.
