I was browsing through old sothebys auctions today and came across this 16th century German hand and a half. I dont know if its a piece put together from extra parts, but whatever was done, someone put it the quillons upside down! I guess it didnt matter to someone since the high bid was over $17000!

Sadly, I could have bought one very simalar for about $8,000. The offer was on the table but my budget said no way. It looks a bit like Albion's upcoming Hauptman I think. (sp?)

LOL, that one confused me until I saw your second post and read your first one past the illustration...

Looks kinda like a pre-basket hilted sword...where someone underestimated the needed size of the basket.

I wonder when it was assembled that way, and why the crossguard got taken off in the first place. :\
