First off I have to admit; I love taking pictures of swords. First, I will share some of my favorite pictures that I have taken. I will then post some of my favorites taken by fellow collectors & the like.

Thomas McDonald
I've always liked the many pictures taken by Thomas McDonald, in which his use natural lighting brings out the best of the basket-hilts/dirks/Claidheamh dà làimh/[Scottish things]  he has taken pictures of.

Just as a point of interest, the antique fencing foils are put together wrong. The leather 'plates' should be behind the figure eight guard and cut to shape as the V is used to guide your opponent’s blades to the outside line while parrying. Having them forward of the guard and fully covering the figure eight makes this impossible

I have to disagree. As you know, many foils back then with the figure-eight guard had the leather pad behind the guard (like the modern foil), some didn't have one at all. There are many examples out there where the pad is placed on top of the guard.
-Here is my theory. If the leather pad is placed over the guard, it acts as a better reinforcement from a blade pushing through and hitting one's hand.-
Also, why would one want to use the guard to deflect the blade to any line? That is what the blade is for.
