Any chance you could find me some good photos of the historical sword that MRL's Arbedo sword is based off of? I know its on display in the metropolitian museum and its called "Cruciform Sword".
Thanks

Hi Nathan
I'll let you know as soon as I know *g*
Basically we promised my daughter a trip to NYC for her birthday ( Aug. 4 th ) , but we were in the process of closing on the new house (turned out to be the 4th no less ) , plus the weather was monsoon city , so we cancelled till a later date !
Since Rachel wants to shop in Times Square, near her beloved MTV/TRL sudios , I figured I'd escape to the past, & relax *g* , and let my wife do the daughter - mother shopping bit !
So now we just have to figure a day that were all not commited to something ??

Well, I might just have to go shopping with them too! haha...
Let me know, as I'm planning on going to NYC soonish and it might overlap. Gotta hang out at the Met again.

Not to get too off-topic here, but last time I was in NYC was September 10th.. the day before.. the day.. and well, I'd like to go see it, too.
Back on topic, I wonder how often the Met rotates their exhibits?
Did you know that the Met has it written in their charter than anyone can request to have a private showing with any piece in the collection? You have to provide the ascension number and, of course, you're victim to their scheduling, but any piece within the met could be in your hands if you want it to be.

From what I've heard, they make it difficult on you. If you wanted to see, say, three swords.. they might try to give three different dates and times for showing each individual sword. The scheduling is often made inconvenient so as to discourage it, but for you guys who are somewhat local, it might be well worth it. Also, you never know until you try. It's certainly worth the effort to handle some of these pieces in-hand.

Nathan,
I had no idea. I may have to reschedule another trip... but I don't think I can handle another road trip for a little while. Still, even though I was just there less than two months ago, I already want to go back.

Hi Sean
My money is on the original *g* (unless Windless/MRL has acquired Vince Evans , or Peter Johnsson ;-)

Hi Sean
I'm 100% sure it's way off the mark , compared with an original medieval piece, but that is not to say that this replica could not be an attractive , well ..... replica ! Antiquing it , at least in my book , would give it a nicer ( ie: real ) look !
Good luck , Mac

I don't have Mac's photo, but I do have this scan from Records. Also I am doing a project with Baltimore Knife and Sword based off of the sword in the Met http://forums.swordforum.com/showthread.php?t=83196
