Hello,

Is this book a how-to type manual, or is it more of a faithful reprint of the original Silver, with commentary and interpretation?

Thank you.

Paul Wagner's book is a good clear text of George's two works, with commentary and background material. Of course, one could take the position that Silver's texts are how-to manuals. The English is a little different (George was exceedingly fond of run-on sentences) and Silver didn't include any diagrams, but the material is definitely practical.

Basically, the book's a modern transcription of the original text (making it easier for the average modern reader to digest), and includes many articles on the context of Silver and the weapons of his time. Overall a good book, though it is a little biased against the Italian rapier (which, of course, Silver was, so I'd expect nothing less, really).
