Gadget weapons
Hi all,

So this dagger: https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=750128721699547&set=a.761170890595330 which I also asked about here: http://myArmoury.com/talk/viewtopic.php?t=39999

is what I'm going to call (unless somebody has a better name for it) a "gadget weapon"

What makes it a gadget weapon, I assert, is that it is a weapon that contains a secondary tool. In this case, an awl concealed in the handle. I think gadget weapons are neat and if there are others out there, I'd like to know about it. Surely this can't be unique? Do you know of any others in the medieval period? The closest I can think of is byknives on messer/bauernwehr scabbards...

Thanks!

Dan
Dan,
Have you seen my article: Spotlight: Combination Weapons? :)
I don't know how I missed that one Chad! I've apparently read it before (it is marked as "read" for me)...thank you for the reminder!

All the examples there are what I would consider later than Medieval (later than 15th century - I know its a fuzzy line when the medieval period ends) - although you make this clear in the article. I have seen lots of gun gadget weapons before in museums (actually, I think I have seen a few of your examples in person), but there are some cool surprises in the spotlight!
Dan,
I don't recall a lot of pre-Renaissance gadget/combo weapons. Most of what I'm aware of are late 15th century, and even more 16th century. I'd love to see earlier stuff is people find it. :)
I hear you Chad! That's why I started this thread...hopefully we get some hits!
