First, I will apologize for not giving a full review of my new and wonderful type M axe made by Owen Bush but all things considered; I felt that a quick introduction would make a better use of my time.
Anyway, this is a Danish axe made by Owen of a bloomery iron body and a bloomery steel edge.
It's absolutely beautiful and, as can be seen in the pics, shows quite a bit of character from its manufacture. It is not perfectly straight and clean in all aspects but, in my opinion, this just adds to the awesomeness of this weapon. I have handled a few danish axes and this is my favorite. In fact, I believe it is the new favorite item in my collection. I consider myself lucky to have it.
Here are some dimensions.
Overall length: 55 in.
Shaft length: 50 in.
Blade length: 9.5 in.
Weight: approx. 3.5 lbs.

And here is an unflattering picture showing the full length with 2 swords roughly contemporary in date to give a sense of size.

What's that sword in the middle (with Type Y pommel), if I may ask?

Thanks- it really is something.
The edge is pretty acute- sharper than some of my swords but there is quite a bit of meat behind it so I believe it would hold up well facing light or moderate targets. Of course it wouldn't hold up as well as a modern steel edge but that's not really the point in a piece like this.
I certainly wont be using it for cutting!
The sword in the middle is a Maciej Kopciuch I picked up second hand here. I date it 1050-1075ish so would be contemporary with an axe like this.

Very nice, thank you for sharing. Was it "off the shelf" or did you commission it? Any trouble with UK to USA shipping, including long haft? Thanks again.

I commissioned it. I was lucky that he had some time to commit to a project. Everything kind just came together.
This was the best shipping experience I had with a package coming from the UK. The USPS did a great job. It spent about a week and a half in the UK then just 3 days in the US.
