Maciejowski Falchions / Choppers

Has any physical / archaeological evidence been found of the Maciejowski Bible falchions / choppers or other similar falchion-like weapons?

See attached pics.
Any other pics from other period manuscripts / art?

Are there other similar falchion-like weapons illustrated in period manuscripts / art?
If so please post pics and information.

What manuscripts are the pics from Falchion-Chopper 4 & Falchion-Chopper 5 taken?

These types of weapons have been discussed on myArmoury.com a few times already. I believe there are some good topics already out there that a search will reveal.

Choppers (Not Harley Davidsons !)

Heres one that you dont see around much...........Its from the Romance of Alexander... they have these interresting squarish hand-guards.

The second image down looked like a glaive head to me, maybe the pole broke?

Perhaps, but Joshua (that it who is holding the weapon in this case) is not previosly depicted holding a glaive, so I don't quite see what the point of that would be. Since the Bible only mentions him using javelins and a sword, there would definately be no biblical back story for such a depiction. Also, later in the same bible there is anothe very similar weapon, though I don't recall exactly which folio (I think it is part of the story of David's kingdom being destroyed by his sons' waring). Also, you will notice that there is some kind of butt cap or other finish work on the handle. The Maciejowski Bible shows several broken lances/spears and all of those exhibit a splintered end where they broke. I don't think the artist would have shown a finished end if he was trying to depict a broken glaive.

Just my thougths on that part of the matter, anyway.

That was the first thing that caught my attention about those images.

I see what you mean about a finished end, maybe it was a glaive, that's pole broke in an earlier fight, and after continuing to use it whilst broken, Joshua decided he liked it like that, and had a shorter more sword like handle made for it.

This is pure speculation.
