Thomas Del Mar is releasing a new publication in 2021 (not an auction catalogue). The title is Tournaments: A Thousand Years of Chivalry.

Has anybody heard anything about it, good or bad?

Thank you in advance!

Be interested to see it. He seems to have lined up a fair few quality authorities to contribute. Looks fun.

I must say I have always liked Tom when I have seen him at the fairs and going to pick up items. I don't know him well at all but he always comes across as a very genuine person with a real interest in the subject. I think the fairs in London have gone through some difficulties in recent years and he has been a major factor in keeping them going, which is important for enthusiasts, as they are forums not just to buy or sell things but for people to meet up and chat and discuss the subject and handle lots of pieces they wouldn't normally. I think very few people make any money out of it and arms and armour fairs are more a part time hobbyist's fair nowadays where increasingly people deal simply to have pieces passing through their hands to study and even if they do it full time they don't have an actual antiques shop. I may well do the same when I retire. But he is a big factor in keeping things going. Problem is the average age of enthusiasts is ever increasing, too much grey hair, need more youngsters.
