Hi everyone,
I've recently launched my crossbow-making business, called The Modern Armbruster:
http://themodernarmbruster.com
My aim here is to design and build crossbows that are as close as possible to their historical counterparts, while using some modern materials and tools to keep the costs down a bit.
Currently I have two late 16th/early 17th century German sporting bows in stock; one is in cherry, the other in walnut, and both with accents in curly maple. The triggers are of a German style from that period (i.e. gun-style as opposed to lever), with a simplified locking mechanism. The prods of both are aluminum alloy, with Dacron strings, and pull about 70lbs at 11.5 inches of draw (8.5 inch power stroke). There's more details on the web site.
I'll be putting up some new models available in due course, but in the meantime I thought I'd share these pics of the two in stock!

Thank you! Yes:
Brace height: 3in/76mm
Power stroke: 8.5in/215mm
Draw weight: 70lbs/32kg
Power (power stroke x draw weight): 595 inch-pounds
Velocity (25 g bolt, range 33ft/10m): 120 ft per second
I've tested out to about 30m, and got some decent groupings at that range (notwithstanding my limited shooting abilities!).

Hi,
Beautiful work. How much will Bolts cost for the Crossbows?
Thanks.
Regards,
Tom

Thank you! Right now I'm not manufacturing bolts, however I will be offering those in the future. In the meantime, all bows are constructed to be able to shoot standard modern crossbow bolts, either 14" or 16"; the space between the fingers of the nut is 10mm, and they've been tested with traditional wooden bolts too - since they are heavier, there's of course a reduction in velocity and effective range, given the light weight of the prod.
Cheers,
DH
