It's true, I can't seem to stop buying them.

On the other hand, I also have a nice case of swords: after years of shuffling them around, this year I finally splurged on a custom cabinet to display my favorites. It has lockable glass doors, LED lights, and also has shelves above for other stuff like my helms. It was not cheap, but less than some of the pieces on display, so makes sense, right? Only problem is, I still can't fit all of my favorites in here! So should I get another cabinet, or sell some of them off? It's a conundrum.

Well....to me a favorite is only a favorite when I wouldn't sell it, unless I run into serious money problems (Which you don't seem to have Happy)

More cases. Happy In my case (not much pun intended), I have a single display cabinet that holds everything. I’d love a second cabinet and more items, but it’s not in the cards. So pieces move out when new ones move in.

I still have some place in my cabinet, you can send some over for safe keeping.... Big Grin

Seriously: Ikea sells a cupboard called Pax, which has the option for really shallow drawers (Picture below, on the left).
Perfect for medieval type swords, knives etc.

For the odd saber or rapier you have the option for deeper drawers.

And if you still run out of space, you can always add more drawers! Big Grin

P.S.: that's a seriously nice collection! Cool
You still need to write something about that Berserker Wink

Chad: that was my plan too, to keep it sane, but its tough to let some of these (and several not in this picture) go!

Paul, re: Berserker. If you've been here a while you may have noticed I like writing reviews, but I'm seriously behind. Having kids at home for the past 6 months there is hardly time to get work and chores done let alone write reviews. Maybe in the fall.

Nice - I like that as a display/storage method.

And, of course you should get another cabinet...

Beautiful cabinet. Surprised you didn't put dividers in there to hold them upright. You could store more in there that way!

I guess I like shifting them around, Nathan. I've thought of installing some pegs higher up so that some can hang from a higher level.

Actually, that's a good idea to pack a few more in there, rather than drilling holes in that nice wood. I hadn't thought of that.

I will say that I'm noticing a deficit of brazil nuts in there. Wink

Yeah, sorry Jeremy, I went 'Brazil Nuts' for a while but have sold most of them off, other than the type O Brazil nut derivative in the picture and another more classic type A that's not in the picture. Still love the way those look and feel in-hand though.

I now wish I had taken a picture of my collection once per year and posted it to see how it evolved over time.

Excuse me while I wipe the drool from my keyboard... Lovely collection, and love the cabinet too! I have a similar but smaller repurposed china cabinet that I have some of my collection in. I drilled a line of holes all along the back and sides that I can press dowels into to make easily reconfigurable hangers. It works pretty well but inevitably I wanted to fit more in there than the wall space would allow and so now there are plenty of others in there leaning much like yours. Looks good either way IMO.

You’re potentially/not really thinking about selling by some off, and here I am with slowly saving funds, with the urge to get a new sword. Haven’t really wanted a new one for a few years now. Maybe by the time I have the coin you’ll know if you want to sell!

In the mean time, I am a FANTASTIC custodian.

Kai: I generally buy and sell several per year, so when you are ready let me know.

Tyler: thanks, great Canadian minds think alike!

I really like that Albion sovereign with a gold medallion on the pommel, do you have scabbards for your swords?

Edward, that sword has a story. It was offered by Albion Europe, along with a Todstuff scabbard, as a contest prize. I think the contest was for the best graphic for use on their web site. It was won by a Swedish fellow. Some years later he traded it for an Albion Jarl I had in my possession, which he said was his dream sword. He had a hard time shipping it out of Sweden but eventually it crossed the Atlantic and found its way to my home. It believe it had the 'campaign worn' grip and I rubbed it with some clear shoe polish to bring back a darker lustre. I also added the coins, which are replicas of a 13th century gold coin that I imported from England. I had another Sovereign before this and regretted selling it. I'm very happy with this one and the scabbard. Here's a new picture for you.

I'd say I have scabbards for about half of my swords, but I like to display them with their blades naked.

Very interesting story, a sword as the grand prize that's a new one for me Laughing Out Loud The scabbard is indeed nice looking as well, IMO a sword is complete with a well suited scabbard.

With some more fiddling, I was able to get everything in...for now.

This seems like a good opportunity to document my collection for 2020, as some have requested, so left to right:

Michael Pikula Swedish Viking, custom A&A/Albion Scottish XIIIb, Jeff Helmes Korsoygaden Sword, Carillo/Berry Steinvik Sword, Albion Huskarl, Albion Berserker, Maciej Kopciuch 'Norman Rider' Xa, Jeff Helmes St. Omer XII, A&A custom XI, Mateusz Sulowski Catillon XVIII, Maciej Kopciuch German XII, Albion Tritonia, Eric McHugh St. Annen XII, A&A custom Hungarian XII, Albion Sovereign, and to the far right: a semi-blunt Maciej Kopciuch XII that I use for practice. Not shown: some lower end swords, some shields, helms, and assorted armor pieces.
