I thought it would be fun/interesting to take a poll of what viking era sword types are favored among myArmoury members. Please also feel free to share why or give examples of specific swords that inspired your love of a particular type. For the purposes of this poll I used Petersen's typology. Unfortunately I had to cut down on the length of the poll by grouping the types so please select a group and also respond with a more specific type if you prefer one type among a group. Grouping like this is definitely not ideal, but if there are a lot of responses below with specific types I will tally up the specific responses later.

I should mention that something similar was done a while back, but it was more about which reproductions were the favorite, so not quite the same. You can see it here: http://myArmoury.com/talk/viewtopic.24238.html

I will kick it off with my personal favorite. For me it is Petersen type I. There is something very aesthetically pleasing about this type for me. There are many swords that have inspired my appreciation for this type, but this is one that I particularly like.

EDIT: Here is a link to some classification charts including Petersen's typology: http://myArmoury.com/talk/viewtopic.php?t=14152

Really difficult question.... I wish it was multiple choice! Wink
But I had to vote type B.
Type H as well, but not the round, thick ones.

And you missed the special types 1 and 2...

L every time. Though plain Jane M has been growing on me recently.

I really like Khazar swords of the time, though I don't think they have a place in that typology

Going purely by aesthetics, I love the AE. It's bordering on something out of a Conan film but the proportions work.

Definitely the type M or F. Love their simplicity. I am having a repro of the sword from Lesja made, hopefully to be finished by Christmas. I hope it retains the same 'imperfect' finish as the original, which is part of the charm.

I tend to like the late 'transitional' types, like AE, Z, Y, early brazil nuts, and Oakeshott M.

Otherwise lobed types L, O, R, S, although N is interesting because it looks like a much later type.
