Tried my hand at getting some shots of my work in progress kit today, didn't turn out perfect but figure I'll show them anyway.

I'm not a reenactor, so it won't be perfectly within any period but I'm trying to get a end of 14th to mid 15th century look, any tips or ideas would of course be appreciated!

Should get some armor pieces around may so I'm excited about that.

Thats a pretty good start I think. If you added a kettle hat and a short sleeved maille shirt to that kit you would fit into any decent reenacter event. You could also consider dropping the belt pouch while wearing figting kit. It is very rarely pictured in a military context. The hood is a nice detail. Are the upcoming armour parts for fighting or just for showing off? I often find that a simple, low status kit that is carefully put together is way more impressive than a sloppy full armour ;-)

Thanks a lot for that, especially nice to hear from a fellow Norwegian!
I have considered getting some maille many times but haven't pulled the trigger on any...yet

As for the armor I am getting a early cabasset style helmet, which I think should look nice.
To go with it I ended up ordering a arm harness based on the armor of Kunz schott von hellingen, and ended up going with a hybrid mitten/fingered style gauntlet out of preference, full mitten style doesn't feel good to me.
The plan is to eventually get a breastplate as well

As you can see I mixed the timelines and nationalities a bit on the armor parts, so I think that is where my set will most likely cringe out some serious reenactors, but if it looks and feels good I feel I can live with that.

The armor is for show but it is made by Armorysmith in the ukraine and while my pieces aren't stylized for safe sport use they make a lot of stuff for battle of nations and participate themselves with their own armor, so i trust it to be very sturdy.

I see your point with the pouch, if I went for an event I would probably drop it but for photos accessories are king.

Entirely agree with you on the low status kits, I'm a big fan of those and I will likely end up buying enough things eventually to be able to mix and match into a lower end and more plated looking kit.

Appreciate your feedback

Thanks man, appreciate it.

I wish, I'm not a very crafty man, it was made by Medieval market.

I did order it without a closure and made that myself, not a fan of how most of their closures look but their products are really nice in my opinion.

Periodically, I like to post an "update" pic to this thread.

This one is my entire family in armour. I made all my daughter's armour, my wife's cuirass and greaves, and several elements of my own harness (pauldrons, tassets, etc) while the rest was made by other US armourers, notably Patrick Thaden.

Good one! There are nowhere near enough brigs in re-enactment.

I always love to look at photos of everyone else's armor. Anyone care to join me in posting some pictures of kits?

I've already started to discuss my late 13th C kit in another thread, but here are a few shots:

Good afternoon. Gorgeous photos. I like to look at different outfits. I'm interested in history, and I love to watch armor and attire. I'm studying for a historian, and I'm writing a graduation work about viking's costumes and other things. I bought an error check for my graduation work here PapersOwl it's a service that can help with writing analytical essays. In general, thanks for your photos, they helped me in writing my graduation paper.

Two kits coming along. Finished a very basic off the shelf kit for 15th century reenactment but also recently got my hands on a new byrnie for what will be a far more accurate 10th century Anglo-Saxon kit. My plans going forward are to start making some softs for my Anglo-Saxon kit, as well as slowly accumulating some mid-grade made-to-measure plate armour for my 15th century kit. Recently ordered a new sallet made, plan to get the rest of the parts mostly from bestarmour and Kovex Ars. The plate armour I show here really is far from a final (or historically accurate) look but I'm really happy to have got it to where it is.

it grows dark beneath the night-helm, as if it never was!"

I've been working away on my Scythian and Ancient Greek gear over the last year.

Made new clothing last week.

Cheers

Hi everybody! I've been reading through this thread and I just love it. Does anybody have any advice on choosing your "impression" or persona. I'm doing 15th century, but have been keeping the armour style basically neutral (neither gothic nor italian, etc.) Because I dont know which country I want to do. I want to do a heavy infantry commander. Any armies that come to mind with non-noble heavy infantry commanders in 15th c? I also love greatswords/2 handers but I'd be willing to put getting one of those off for a more complete impression.

Okay, so I've continued to do a lot of research and I've decided on wars of the roses era english armour. Does anyone have any first-hand account resources for how the different classes were armed at this time such as a muster roll or statement of law about armour to income ratios? I'm having a hard time finding threads that deal with this so links would be greatly appreciated. Happy

My early to mid 14th century armour.

There are some improvements planned like the bracers.
