A German Two-Handed Longsword/Athelhampton House Auction
It is up for auction tomorrow, allegedly 16th/17th Century.. it looks Victorian to my eyes:

There is some other brilliant furniture and such up, which looks more authentic. It is all the furnishings from Athelhampton House. More can be read about the auction here:

Figured this would be of interest to some people!

I'm 90% sure it's a replica, artificially aged, made by Oscar Kolombatovich in the 1990s.
Yeah, I am absolutely certain it is not actually 16th/17th century. But thought the auction might be interesting for other objects. There is some really great furniture, with very low estimates --and didn't know what anyone else might spot.

Thats interesting about Oscar Kolombatovich, I have never heard of him. Was he making replicas, or intentionally deceptive "antiques"?

EDIT: http://myArmoury.com/talk/viewtopic.php?p=131329 I found this one for sale by Oscar that you mentioned, the pommel is identical. And a discussion about it here, with a third one: http://myArmoury.com/talk/viewtopic.php?t=12882
He made replicas and sold them as replicas.
Surely they know... the expected price range is far too low for an actual antique longsword. Wow.
Zach,

Very interesting! A little over nine years ago, I posted photographs and stats of a two handed sword with the very similar fittings. Date of the post is Monday, Aug. 2, 2010, Subj. Help in IDing sword. I acquired the piece through a trade in early 1972. Made more than one erroneous assumption (+ a few typos). My present thoughts are that it is indeed a Victorian item, that must have cost a good piece of change, re. silvered fitting, etc. in its day.

Regards,
Dan
