Hi All,
I've recently been reading through Dr. Toby Capwell's wonderful book Armour of the English Knight: 1400-1450, in which he discusses in meticulous detail the various idiosyncrasies peculiar to English plate harnesses of the period (in contrast to those originating from the famous centers on the continent like Milan).
I found myself wondering if anyone has done a similar study on English swords of the period? I have never been under the impression that the English were particularly renowned as swordsmiths, but truthfully I've never given the matter too much thought. Broadly speaking, I know that the Type XV was still widely popular, but I'm wondering more about specifics such as blade length and furniture details (cross shape, pommel type, etc.)
If anyone is aware of anything like this, I'd love to know about it!
