Today the work on the great Type XVIa is finished. I am very happy :) All elements of the sword are hand made by me ad my lovely wife with traditional methods.

The facets on the pommel are very crisp and add a layer of detail to an already-intricate shape.

But that cross...

...that cross has to be one of the most majestic, regal-looking hilt fittings I have ever seen!

Today I finished work on great sword with very long crossguard. The sword lie very good in hand. All elements are full hand made. I was inspired by historical find from XII century.

Custom sword type XV - The Noble Blood

Today I want to introduce you to my new finished project - The Noble Blood. The sword is inspired by the historical find. The characteristic feature is the coin of the Duke of Urbino mounted in the pommel. The coin is made by my friend Angus Metalsmith. The sword has a great ballance and it lie good in hand. Please tell me how do you like it.

Welcome to my workshop. Now I am working on a new project - a sword type XVIII. It is a one and a half handed sword. The blade is 92cm long. Now the sword will be polished and sharpened. Next step will be the work with wood - the handle and scabbard.

The fittings remind me a lot of my class with Ric Furrer!

Forging and grinding fittings is quite enjoyable, but it's also a LOT of work. It makes you understand why so many makers go for castings when it comes to production swords, though the castings generally aren't as good or as tough as a forged part (just the nature of a casting).

I also have a question, if you don't mind answering: I have a project in the works, and I want to make a simple sword guard. I believe we have A36 mild steel stock at work, and I should be able to get a piece. To form the guard, I would just use stock reduction as I currently lack any forging facilities. Would simple stock reduction produce a suitable guard? Although mild steel is generally not hardenable, I do wonder if you can make it tougher through the heat treating or forging processes. A very broad question, but if you'd not mind offering some advice here, I'd really appreciate it!
