DIY Bearded Axe...
Cut & ground this old $5 flea market Hatchet head that had been found buried in a late 1800's farm yard. It was pretty tough steel and took several hours to shape, i even simplified the design a bit. And it lost over half it's original weight in the process...

I welded a plug into it to give it a better period correct D shaped hole. Ball peen induced pitting and applied a salt water paste for a few days to add patina the freshly cut surfaces. Finally sprayed a light coat of rust retardant primer to darken the new work.

Shaped and distressed a hickory haft and have had it hanging from a 2nd story gutter for over a year now to give it a little more "authentic" weathering. I just checked and i don't think it's ready yet, perhaps this spring...?

LOL!

I'm not seeing how you incorporated the dwarf bread. Of course, they usually just used the bread for flails and polearms.

Banner day - second time I've been able to use a Pratchett reference. ;)

Well, that's pretty embarrassing. I'll see if I can change it...

I suppose I could have sent a PM, but the set-up was just too perfect and I enjoy a good reason to share the wonderful (Disc)world of Pratchett. Actually, I don't really need a "good" reason...

Nice work. If you were to sell it, apparently the haft alone is worth about $150. ;)
It is good stuff!, you SHOULD find "reasons" to share more of this work!

Wow, that much for haft? It's just a simple wall hanger to me...
