Hi All,

Here are a couple of pieces I have recently finished for a customer.

The first is a rondel dagger based on a German piece and has a stout single edged blade with hollow steel rondels and an antler grip fitted with decorative studs and everything has been gilded. The sheath has a leather cup at the top which is an occasional 15thC feature of the daggers and again is fitted with gilded chape and throat.

To accompany this is a type 18 longsword with a type U pommel, which is a common form in both Germany and England toward the end of the 15thC. The grip is cord bound leather with a wire half wrap. It is also fitted with a hardened leather chappe, again a popular feature at this time.

The scabbard is wood cored and covered in leather with a prominent throat riser and finished with a curious form of knot as shown in the reference statue. What is also curious is that the statue shows a further strap that lashes the scabbard to the upper thigh; I have not seen this before.

The scabbard is fitted with a chape and again everything has been gilded.

If there is anything you would like to know, please ask.

I hope you like them.

Tod
