I had admired this Rondel from Arms and Armor for a long time. It showed up as a Valentine's day present from my wife.

How thick is the blade? Very nice Valentines gift there. ( The Medieval equivalent of getting a can opener ........ LOL. )
( In case the joke isn't obvious: The CAN being an armoured Knight! )

She has good taste in most things! She has developed a relationship with the guys at A&A, I think.
Jean and Alex - the blade is barely under 1/4 inch thick at the base - .22 inches tapering to about .15 inches thick where the "false edge" begins on the back. Overall length 16.8 inches, blade is 12 inches long and about 1.1 inches wide at the base.
The grip is comfortable, 4 inch grip, and just the right length for my hand. There is some real heft to it - certainly not a "dainty" weapon.

Thanks guys. I think that A&A knives and daggers have to be one of the best deals around - for not much more than "lower end" makers you get A&A quality. I wish they would add more medieval stuff to their production lineup - a basilard would be nice, and a ballock option without the by knife and prick (though I love the set).
as for the "dagger or wife", just remember - if you get a pointy, then you have a pointy, but if you acquire a wife who will buy you pointies, you will have them for a lifetime. Or something like that...

I wish I could put that blade on my hilt. *sigh* My rondel dagger is probably the most beautiful thing I've ever made, but the precision and flawless execution of that weapon makes mine look sick. 
When you order your dager, why not ask for a larger rondel for the guard. I tried a little one first when I made mine, but I found that when I used it like an icepick, it hurt my palm. So, I made the guard and pommel rodels very nearly matching in size. I think that might improve the effect and "presence" of the blade. There's pleanty of prescedent for it, after all.

Nice one Gordon! I think personally I would darken down that grip some. Any plans to do anything like that or are you going to leave it as is? I also didn't realize that it would be so thick in cross section although on reflection that does make sense. Now I want one of those too...

I'm planning to just let it darken naturally - though I may use some linseed oil or something similar to "condition" the wood if it seems like it needs it.
