This is an intriguing variation of the (in my opinion) under-represented, "tea cozy" pommel and short cross combination. The blade has nice, crisp lines, and I like the color combination for the scabbard and belt.

Well done, sir!

Thank you very much for your opinion. I was long wandering how to make the scabbard and I think that option is ok. Greetings
Today after a little long break I made something different. The Viking Axe made with traditional methods of forgeing Type L (Petersen), XI - XIIc. Tomorrow I will try to polish it.

Hallo my friends. Today I made movie to bring details of the work on sword Type X.
Greetings.

Amazing work Damian, loved the video, if I didn't have so much money tied up in other projects I would definitely be bugging you for some work!
Funny, the axe head looks very smooth!

The video is a great idea, I think more craftsmen should do vids to quickly show how their pieces look in hand.
Thank you for opinion. You have rigt, the movie is very good idea. You can see more on movie - you can see everything closer to reality - colours, details... So... what can I say... The sword is sold :-), and the axe too :-). Thank you.

Sword test after hardening 54 HRC.
Hallo my friends. Today you can see on pictures the historical way of creation of the cross-guard for my next sword. I will show you also the tool for making a hole.

Huh... I've always kind of wondered about that!

How do you determine how "deep" to cut with the wide part of that tool? Unlike the narrow part, it clearly doesn't go all the way through...
The new sword - dated on XIIIc. The new very good quality of polishing. It is hardened to 54HRC, high quality steel 51CrV4. It is very sharp :-). The pommel is bronze. made like in oryginal sword. You will see nice handle and scabbard for the sword that are on the way...

In that case if the width of blade is 50mm then I will make the hole in crossground 54mm. Depth is some 3mm, then after polishin ther will be some 2mm. It can not be deeper, because usualy the crossgroud is 1cm width and bigger depth can make the crossground worse. The smaller hole that is adapted to the hilt I make some 3mm smaller, because I can match the file perfectly. I hope that I explaned it good :-).

I like the clean and simple lines of this sword Damian. It looks to be all business to me. Looking forward to seeing it finished as well as the measurements for it.
I am working on the scabbard for new sword. The ornaments are inspired in oryginal scabbard from XIII century.

Damian,

I don't mean to "hijack" your thread, but I found a recent photo on your Facebook page containing two unfinished blades that *appear* to be something like XVIIIa. Both blades have very crisp, well-defined spines that look "raised" or "hollow-ground"-- is that correct?

Regardless, I really like tapered, awl-pointed, XVIII-family blades. I'm sorry if you weren't ready to discuss those on here yet, but I am not on Facebook, and couldn't wait to ask!

You can always ask me hear about everything :-). Two blades are hardened and they are to types XV and XVa. I have one blade type XVIII that I will use to sword that you can see on picture. I will make it I thing in May. I am afraid that thous blades should wait for a little time, because after I will make the second sword type XII I will make current orders - viking sword Petersen type H and Oakeshott type XXa.
If you are interesting in some special sword, please let me knew and I will pay attention when I will forgeing new blades.
