There was a single handed cut launched weakly that I used in recent sparring. To test it out how much it actually performed, I did test cut on wrist difficulty target (newspapers roll + 2 bamboo strips core).

It cuts alright!

Enlarged.

Done with Longship No Remorse.

Done with Longship Dadao

It seems to be slow in the recovery though, do you power it with your wrist during the cut?

The recovery was faster in the bout, did you notice? That's because he parried my strike and I didn't cut him. The strike's design was like that. If it hit, it cuts. If it didn't and get parried, it's faster in recovery. If it missed totally because of the opponent backed away, I got plenty reach to protect myself.

No, not powered by wrist.

I think lunges are quite fast, and may prove not easy to defend in time, but I have not tried it in practice.

Just like paper scissors and rocks, you won't last long if you keep sticking to any single one. Happy Mix up your bag of tactics and you'll be fine. Big Grin

More tests with Longship Armoury 3V Tengu and 5160 Dadao. Also tested some other techniques as well.
