Chrome vanadium steel
Just wondering if anyone might have some experience with this.

So I'v had my eye on a Del Tin Schiavona for awhile now. I'v never gotten anything from Del Tin before, though I am aware that they have a pretty decent reputation for quality as far as historical accuracy goes. I'v notice that all of their blades are made out of chrome vanadium steel, which I know is used as a high-end tool steel. Their blades also come unsharpened.

Would anyone like to tell me about their experience using a sharpened Del Tin blade for cutting? How does a sharpened chrome vanadium steel blade hold up? Would love to hear your stories.

Thanks!

I have had 2 del tin longswords sharpened by koa (2142 & 5140). The edges were sharp but the fat secondary bevels were a pain to blend into the main flat of the blade. Even then, i felt that the blade was still a bit too thick for optimal cutting performance.

Regarding the quality of the steel and heat treat, id say its fine. I accidentally smashed the sharpened edge of my 2142 into a metal bed frame, hard enough to dent the bed frame, but couldn't find any edge damage at all. Ive also smacked about loose branches and bits of wood with no issues.

Here's a video of the 5140 cutting
